1905 movie network feature When he walked into the interview room, he was dressed casually in dark brown and wearing rock metal earrings, maintaining his usual trend and handsome appearance. The label attached to him in recent years is a variety show instructor and a friend of Michelin, but only the actor’s identity is less exposed.
Let him reappear in the public eye and embrace the big screen as a villain.
"Nicholas Tse is a handsome man, and the moment he threw the bomb was absolutely amazing!"
"In the past, Nicholas Tse was handsome, but now he is ruthless!"
This movie gave him a lot of recognition. If the audience’s recognition of him in the past was just playing handsome and posing, then now everyone’s praise for him has extended to a new level of acting.
Nicholas Tse has changed, and to put it further, he has finally completed his transformation. After witnessing the peaks and valleys of the Hong Kong music scene, as well as the rise and fall of the Hong Kong film industry, Nicholas Tse quietly passed the age of confusion, and the rebellious and unruly nature of the guitar on the stage gradually faded, and he began to have a symbol of maturity.
Nicholas Tse x
"I promised him to film before I read the script."
At the beginning of the interview, Nicholas Tse quickly got into a state of being. He said that when he agreed to shoot "Anger · Serious Case", he didn’t even read the script. Director Chen Musheng called him and said that he had such an idea, so he agreed immediately, "I didn’t think too much about it, because I have made so many movies with him before!"
He had absolute confidence in him for 22 years.
At the end of the last century, in the era of the Post-Four Heavenly Kings, Nicholas Tse was born with the halo of the "second generation of stars". Less than three years after his debut, he had already won the "Best Newcomer Award" in the Hong Kong music and film industry, and he was in the limelight for a while. But unfortunately, he was young and full of energy, and he did not know the sky and the earth, and his reputation in the circle was mediocre.
Chen Musheng didn’t mind these "laces". He found Nicholas Tse to shoot, which was the first time the two worked together. At that time, Nicholas Tse played the role as he was, and the acting skills he contributed were still a little young.
Chen Musheng was optimistic about this rebellious teenager. He would affectionately call Nicholas Tse "Zai" (in Cantonese, "Zai" means son) on the set.
As long as he had a suitable role in his film, Chen Musheng would definitely call Nicholas Tse and take him to "play" and "fight" together, cultivating and guiding him bit by bit, opening up new paths and directions for him
Over the years, the two have worked together seamlessly and appreciated each other. Talking about his growth in Director Chen’s drama, Ting Feng is particularly serious, "I have accumulated a lot over the past 20 years. Many dangerous scenes in the movie were spent with him. I will remember it for a lifetime, which is very, very profound."
Nicholas Tse regards Chen Musheng as his mentor, whether it is acting or being a person."Anger · Serious Case" is their seventh collaboration, and what Nicholas Tse did not expect was that it would become the director’s last work in the world.
On August 23, 2020, Chen Musheng passed away due to nasopharyngeal cancer. After losing a dear and respectable senior and a mentor who promoted him, Nicholas Tse used "losing his right hand" to describe this pain. After a year of the Shanghai Film Festival conference, facing the empty director’s seat, he could not help but cry.
After the movie was released, the word-of-mouth response was very good. I hope to ask Nicholas Tse more about Chen Musheng’s friendship, but he doesn’t want to talk about it in detail. It’s not that he has forgotten the relationship between mentors and apprentices in the past. It’s a wound buried deep in his heart that has not yet healed and is unwilling to mention it easily.
This youthful friendship, the mutual admiration of two generations of filmmakers, is destined to be hidden in 128 minutes of light and shadow, ushering in a slightly regretful farewell.
Nicholas Tse x "Rage · Serious Case"
"Qiu GangI can understand Ao’s contradictions and despair. "
Before the filming of "Rage · Serious Case" began, Chen Musheng asked Nicholas Tse whether he wanted to play a good person or a bad person. Ting Feng said that it must be bad, because "good people are difficult to do."
This is the second time he has played the villain in Chen Musheng’s play. The last time he played "Cao Man" in "New Shaolin Temple", Nicholas Tse wanted to play him worse and cheaper, and wanted the audience to gnash their teeth at him, "I really want to kill this person." This time, he played "Qiu Gangao" in "Anger · Serious Case", but this person was "a little pitifully bad", and some audiences didn’t even want him to die silently.
One of the things Nicholas Tse was very excited about filming "Rage · Serious Case" was that he could finally "fight" with Qiu Gangao’s "enemy" Zhang Chongbang. The two had cooperated with each other before, but they had never "fought with force".
Nicholas Tse still remembered that when he filmed the last church battle, he communicated with the other party more than a month in advance, "Does Brother Dan have an idea, how should we shoot and fight?" Donnie Yen never answered.
Until he was about to shoot, he suddenly grabbed Ting Feng and invited him to challenge the classic of his fight with blood. He still used a stick and let Nicholas Tse use a knife. "The first day I thought he was joking, but he said for two or three days, I knew it was over, he was coming for real." Nicholas Tse had to go back to his homework and think about how to play new tricks with the knife.
He could understand the cruelty that Ah Ao derived from despair, so the weapon he designed for this man was the butterfly knife, on the grounds that, "No hooligan, no villain, will use this kind of knife."
Nicholas Tse used to have the foundation to control the butterfly knife, and he could dance with his left hand. In order to fit the characters better, this time he also practiced right-hand control to use both hands. In every action scene, he asked himself to be close to the character with every punch, every kick, every knife, and every shot.
Batons, butterfly knives, hammers, iron rods, hammers, in the melee fight in the church, the two used all cold weapons, "real swords and real guns" in actual combat, changing one move at a time, a big battle, filming for ten days.
After filming this scene, Donnie Yen was lamenting that "Anger · Serious Case" was the most exciting fashion action movie he had played in recent years. Nicholas Tse also bluntly said that this was a long-lost and boiling fight scene.
In the end, Ah Ao did not die under Zhang Chongbang’s stick, but ended himself after the failure of the ultimate battle. This ending was designed by Nicholas Tse, and he still considered for a long time whether to die or not, "In the end, I still think that for a person like Ao, this ending should be the best."
The agent, Huo Wenxi, explained that Ting Feng’s meaning was actually to let the audience see that Ah Ao had no way out, went all the way to the end, and did not reflect. He was a real super villain.
Nicholas Tse x Hong Kong Film
"Hold on to your beliefs, you still need to prove yourself"
Chen Musheng once wrote a message to Nicholas Tse, "Hold fast to your beliefs".From 1999 to 2021, from "SWAT New Human" to "Rage · Serious Case", 20 years like a day, he did indeed achieve, on the road of action movies, "stick to your beliefs".
It’s not that Nicholas Tse has never made other types of movies, but the scripts handed to him are often action scenes. He has been puzzled and asked many directors, "Why?"
The answer he gave him was the best, just four words, "It’s convenient to find you". He said that the investors invested so much, just to find an actor who looks better, can act a little bit, and is willing to work hard for the movie. "Look at you, fight and come by yourself, act and come by yourself, die and come by yourself, and do everything by yourself, isn’t it very convenient?"
After listening, Nicholas Tse didn’t answer, just smiled faintly, because in fact, he was like that.
"New Police Story" was going to shoot a jumping scene, and it was the high-rise landmark Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Without saying a word, he went into battle himself. Looking down from the top floor of the Convention and Exhibition Center, the high-rise buildings seemed insignificant in an instant, and they fell from the sky. His body suddenly lost balance, but his hands were tied and could not be untied, and his neck was strangled by a rope. For a while, he could not breathe and rolled his eyes. Frightened to the side, Chen Musheng also hurriedly stopped, but after recovering, Nicholas Tse actually took the initiative to ask, "Do it again."
Wu Jing jumped in the air, and Nicholas Tse chased after him. The other party kicked Ting Feng out of the air, his back first hit the floor, then fell to a tree, and was pricked by a branch, and then hit the carriage, and his whole person lay on the ground. In that scene, Nicholas Tse almost landed on his head, "It’s not a little luck, maybe it’s not in this world anymore."
At the beginning of making action movies, he would go to the director like crazy to question him, and he would personally go to the set to persuade him, but after so many years, "They have stopped coming, and they know they can’t persuade me." Nicholas Tse understood his passion for martial arts, "I have always believed that fighting is a kind of body language, and I have never believed that acting is divided into fighting and literary drama, and fighting is as important as lines."
Sometimes, he would explain to the people around him that he was not a lunatic, and that dangerous movements were basically based on safety. Sometimes, he would occasionally "complain" about why his father could play well by standing on his hips and playing handsome, but he had to work hard to get to the next level.
Nicholas Tse competed and wanted to prove himself. When he won the Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Actor, he teased Xie Xian on stage, "You say all day long that you have made hundreds of movies and hundreds of TV series, but you have not won the Hong Kong Film Awards. I will take this award home tonight (for you to see)." That was the highlight of Nicholas Tse’s acting career, but now, ten years have passed.
So I asked, do you think the current Ting Feng still needs to prove himself?
"I think it’s necessary, I’m someone who forces myself to improve every day."
In recent years, there has been a lot of discussion about the development of Hong Kong films. In Nicholas Tse’s opinion, Hong Kong films are a profound issue that can be taken lightly. Just like fashion, there will be no lines, spots, or colors that will always lead the trend. Everywhere will have its own era. A deeper statement is that Hong Kong has not been cultivating more new troops. Take action movies as an example. In terms of age, he may be the youngest action actor.
He rarely talked about the Korean entertainment industry. Others would spend a lot of resources and time to train a group of people who would be great in 10 years, so there were "trainees". "If the Hong Kong film industry wants to be brilliant again, we have to work hard to train a group of new actors who have acting skills, works, strength, and maybe some action."
In Nicholas Tse’s heart, Hong Kong Action is a mission hidden in the blood. The previous generation of Hong Kong filmmakers once led Hong Kong Action to rush out of Asia and go global, which is a spiritual symbol and a brand of honor. "It is because of this label that I work so hard to maintain it as much as possible."
"New Police Story 2", "Baby Plan 2" and "SWAT New Humans 3", Nicholas Tse has thought about whether it is possible to develop, but for various reasons, it has not been realized. After watching "Rage · Serious Case", Nicholas Tse also sent him a text message with emotion, saying, "I hope the original creators of" SWAT New Humans "have the ability to complete some of the director’s ideas and plans."
"If there is a chance in the future, I still want to make action movies. But not every time, I can find such a good script, such a good opponent, and such a good director."
