Blue feather:Hello, manager Wang. This wall covered with posters can be described as bearing the development history of TV entertainment in China. When did Light Media come up with the idea of switching from TV to movies?


Wang Changtian:Light Media has been making movies since the first film was released in 2006. 2012 is a turning point. The movie "Too Bad for People to Walk Again" produced by Light has more than one billion box office, which has opened a new channel for China film market.In 2015, we decided to stop all TV program creation and turn to the film field in an all-round way.We are also an influential artist agency now. Newcomers include,,, and so on. Their first films are all produced by light.



Blue feather:Light has been established for more than 20 years, covering many brands such as youth light, striped house and colorful. What are the different plans of these brands?


Wang Changtian: There are seven or eight brands of Light now. The animation team includes striped house and light animation. There are more live-action film teams. At present, Youth Light has more foreign cooperation, and several films are produced by Youth Light. Colorful is better at making youth films; Mini light focuses on social themes, such as pre-planning and development; The small forest is created around the author. Because each company has its own characteristics, we can operate different styles and types of films every year, and the number is also guaranteed.



Cooperate with Zhang Yimou to train new directors.

Light creates the cradle of China film talents.


Blue feather:At the beginning of his business, Ray took the youth gene and has been committed to supporting young filmmakers. Many directors’ first films are in cooperation with light. Does light have any unique standards in selecting and cultivating young filmmakers?


Wang Changtian:I once expressed a view that China’s film industry probably needs two or three hundred mature film directors. Since Light is interested in long-term development in this industry, it is imperative to solve the talent problem. We supported a group of directors a long time ago. For example,,,. This year, we will also train new directors internally.I announced a "321" plan, that is, 30 producers, 20 writers and 10 directors. We will train 10 new directors internally and sign almost 100 writers and directors outside. I think that as long as we persevere, Light will become a real cradle of film talents, and this goal can be achieved. I expect the production level and script level of China films to get better and better.



Blue feather:From "Article 20", the cooperation between Light and Director Zhang Yimou has been very close in recent years. What kind of tacit understanding has Light Media and Director Zhang run in?


Wang Changtian:I think working with director Zhang is the dream of all filmmakers, and it is also for light. Being able to cooperate with director Zhang Yimou is our greatest luck in entering the film industry.We cherish every opportunity to cooperate with director Zhang, and there will be works to cooperate next, which is already in preparation.


Blue feather:Will it be a new theme and type?


Wang Changtian:Are included. His requirements are very high. If the theme, story and script can’t meet his requirements, there is no chance of cooperation. To cooperate with him, you must first become a strong man.



Layout the animated film track early

Blue feather:For example, Light began to lay out animated film tracks very early and produced many excellent animations. Why do you think these works can be successful?


Wang Changtian:We laid out the plan for many years in the early stage. The idea of creating animated films was first put forward in 2004. Until 2012, we finally waited for the opportunity and decided to invest in this project and the company behind it, which was our first step towards the animated film market. We believe that China animated films have a chance to go to the world earlier than live-action films, because animation is a universal film language. Over the years, we have laid a foundation for animated films beyond many people’s imagination, which has also laid the foundation for the layout of our animated films in the next twenty or thirty years.



Blue feather:How many years after the layout now?


Wang Changtian: Take the mythical universe as an example. Now more than 20 works have been planned.In 18th and 19th years, we organized a team of dozens of people to secretly research and develop, re-combed the myths, characters, stories, novels, operas, drama folklore, etc. in China, and then merged them together to establish our own mythical world view. For example, the mythical figures in Shan Hai Jing may appear in the opening battle of China’s mythological history. Now the outline has come out, and the script is being written, not just one, but at least two or three.



Actively participate in offline entertainment projects.

Plan to use AI to intervene in the creation of miniseries.


Blue feather:Light also participates in offline entertainment projects, such as Yangzhou China Film World. Can you briefly introduce it?


Wang Changtian:Now the first phase of the project has been basically completed. The first phase of the project is very large. At present, the largest studio area in China is about 110,000 square meters, the first phase of Yangzhou China Film World is 86,000 square meters, and there are 13 sheds over 3,000 meters. We hope that these sheds can help to promote the film industry in China. There is a 9,000-square-meter water shed, in which various effects such as tsunami, waterfall and drifting can be completed. It is one of the most advanced underwater studios in the world and can meet the needs of difficult underwater shooting.



Blue feather:Now the hot topic in the industry is related to AI. What impact do you think it will bring to the industry? Light has been using AI technology for a long time, such as posters made with AI. What plans will Light have for the use of AI in the future?


Wang Changtian:AI should be a long way from being directly presented in the movie. After sora is announced, it will bring a new change. We are planning to shoot a 1,000-episode animated miniseries, with each episode lasting about two or three minutes. The theme comes from China’s classic works, and we plan to use AI to get involved in the creation. Now we are setting up a team and preparing the script.

Wang Changtian:How to measure the success or failure of our company, I think there are only two, the first is that excellent works are frequent, and the second is that talents are like clouds. I cried before I could speak at the annual meeting, mainly because I felt that many of our young employees had their own dreams of life and movies, and I was afraid of being sorry for everyone.
