CCTV News: A cup of milk tea has added 13 cubes of sugar. Will you feel delicious before you know it? Will you still consume it after you know it?

As for the fresh milk tea, consumers can’t identify its nutritional components through labels, and then judge whether it is healthy or not, like bottled drinks, for example.

A cup of milk tea causes palpitations, whether you are puzzled before you know it, and whether you will hesitate between drinking and not drinking for a long time after you know it.

There is also a more dangerous symptom, that is to say, after drinking, the heart rate will accelerate, and then the blood pressure will rise.

In recent years, high-value tea shops have quietly sprung up in various places, and various brands have emerged in an endless stream. No matter in large shopping malls or near office buildings, many people can be seen waiting in line to buy milk tea.

Today, our experiment is to simulate the consumption habits of ordinary consumers. We bought 51 milk tea samples from 27 milk tea shops in Shanghai, which basically covered the best-selling products of the mainstream milk tea brands on the market, including 27 milk teas with normal sugar and 20 milk teas without sugar. After the sampling, all 51 samples were sent to Shanghai Nutrition Food Quality Supervision and Inspection Station for testing. The testing items mainly involved the nutritional indicators in milk tea, including total sugar, protein, fat, trans fatty acids and so on.

Sugar is one of the most important food additives in domestic and international medical and nutritional fields in recent decades. At present, the known research shows that excessive sugar intake will increase the risk of dental caries and obesity. In this comparative experiment, the inspectors first detected the total sugar content in 27 milk tea samples with normal sugar.

Through calculation, this cup of milk tea actually contains as much as 60 grams of sugar, so how much is 60 grams of sugar? The inspector gave a demonstration to the reporter with about 4.5g cube sugar. As a result, the 13th cube sugar was just similar to 60g, which means that drinking such a cup of milk tea is equivalent to eating 13 cubes.

Finally, after testing, it was found that the total sugar content in 27 pieces of milk tea with nominal normal sugar content was generally not low. On average, the sugar content of each cup of milk tea sample was 33g, which is equivalent to adding about 7 cubes of sugar on average. Among them, the nominal person in the tea brand stockings milk tea has the highest sugar content, reaching 62g, which is equivalent to adding 13 cubes of sugar; Followed by the nominal Kawanka brand ice milk tea, the sugar content is 52g, which is equivalent to adding 11 cubes of sugar; The nominal Lele tea brand Fukuoka Matcha has a sugar content of 51g, which is equivalent to adding 11 cubes of sugar.

In this comparative experiment, 20 pieces of nominal sugar-free milk tea were purchased and the total sugar content was detected. At present, there is no "sugar-free" standard for instant milk tea. This comparative experiment refers to the sugar-free standard in prepackaged drinks, which requires that the sugar content of tea drinks declared as "sugar-free" should not be higher than 0.5g/100mL.

Results After testing, the measured sugar content of 20 nominal "sugar-free" ready-made milk teas was all higher than the relevant standard requirement of no more than 0.5g/100ml, in which the measured total sugar content of nominal Lele tea was 5g/100ml, and the sugar content was 10 times of the reference limit.

Nominally sugar-free, the actual sugar content is not low, and the merchant explained that sugar-free only means that no extra sugar is added during the production process. Obviously, there is an obvious deviation between the cognition of merchants and the understanding of consumers. Experts told reporters that this implies health risks.

Dietary Guidelines for China Residents (2016) suggests that "the daily intake of added sugar should not exceed 50g, and it is better to control it below 25g". That is to say, some milk tea in this comparative experiment, as long as you drink a cup, has exceeded the intake of added sugar in a normal human day.

In addition, we also conducted an experiment on the palpitation and insomnia caused by some consumers after drinking milk tea, and found that not only caffeine was detected in all 51 pieces of milk tea, but also the content was high, which even exceeded the expectations of experts.

Caffeine, also known as caffeine, is a psychoactive substance, similar to stimulant, which can accelerate human metabolism and improve oxygen delivery capacity. Low dose intake of normal people will not pose a threat to health. However, the absorption rate of caffeine in human body is as high as 99%, and rapid excessive intake can be toxic, and even respiratory and circulatory failure may occur in severe cases; In particular, under certain conditions, caffeine intake can lead to caffeine dependence, which is commonly called addiction. The harm of addiction is anxiety disorder, withdrawal reaction and so on.

The comparative experiment found that caffeine is generally contained in the milk tea which is now sold, and the caffeine content in some products is still quite high. However, the reporter found in the survey that most consumers did not know about it during the consumption process. Among the more than 1,600 valid questionnaires received by the Consumers Association Department, only 11% of consumers thought that "there will definitely be caffeine in milk tea". From the comparative test results, in the case of opaque ingredient information and lack of nutrition labels, only one of the 27 best-selling tea shops that bought samples this time gave a hint that "it is not recommended for the elderly, children and pregnant women", and the other 26 did not make any taboo reminders.

After testing, it was found that the average caffeine content in 51 pieces was as high as 270mg/L, and the highest was 828 mg/L; According to the content in a cup of milk tea, the caffeine content in a single cup of four samples all exceeded the reference limit of 200mg intake for healthy adults given by the European Union. Among them,Nominal Letangkou (sugar-free) original handmade teh tarik has the highest caffeine content. A cup of milk tea contains 428mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to the caffeine content of 4 cups of American coffee of a certain brand (108 mg); Followed by Letangkou original handmade teh tarik, a single cup contains 397mg; of caffeine; In addition, the nominal person in the tea in the brand stockings milk tea, a single cup contains 344g of caffeine, the nominal Mizhilian brand famous stockings milk tea, the caffeine content of a single cup is 331mg, which is equivalent to 3 cups of American coffee (108mg) of a certain brand.

"Socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, and the main contradiction in our society has been transformed into the contradiction between the people’s growing needs for a better life and the development with insufficient imbalance." Although milk tea is small, there were no street milk tea shops in most parts of China forty years ago, so we can understand that in the process of solving the problem from scratch, we have not formulated more detailed standards and requirements, but the times are progressing and our focus is changing. Now we have higher requirements for milk tea, and I believe milk tea will become more delicious and healthier.
